The aim of the organization is to safeguard the interests of Norwegian contemporary exhibition spaces’ and to spread knowledge about art and art's place in society, nationally as well as and internationally.

New Nordic Network
More than 40 smaller visual arts institutions from the Nordic countries have now formed a network, in order to address the question of art’s agency.
The organisation of the new network will be based on three existing associations of kunsthalles: Klister in Sverige and Kunsthallene i Norge; Foreningen of Kunsthaller in Danmark which has been active since 1992, which both took shape in 2011.
Each of these networks has arisen out of a need to organize in order to highlight and debate the function of small and medium sized contemporary art institutions, their significance as well as their existing terms of governance.

Telemarksforskings rapport ’Kunsthallene i Norge’ er gjort på bestilling av det nasjonale nettverket Kunsthallene i Norge. De mellomstore kunsthallene har på relativt kort tid etablert seg som viktige institusjoner i det norske samtidskunstfeltet. Hva kjennetegner disse kunsthallene; deres egenart og deres funksjon? Hvordan ser deres økonomi og organisering ut?
Publikasjonen er utgitt med støtte fra Kulturrådet.

> Agencies of Art – A report on the situation of small and medium-sized art centers in Denmark, Norway and Sweden
Rapporten ’Agencies of Art’, forfattet av Jonatan Habib Engqvist og Nina Möntmann, er skrevet etter initiativ fra et nytt nordisk nettverk for kunsthaller – hvor Tensta konsthall og Marabouparken i Stockholm, Fotografisk Center og Kunsthallen Nikolaj i København samt Oslo Kunstforening har vært de drivende partene. Hva slags kunnskap genereres lokalt og internasjonalt i Skandinavias små og mellomstore kunsthaller? Rapporten, som er skrevet på engelsk, bygger på undersøkelser og intervjuer med et trettitalls institusjoner i de tre landene.
Symposiet Agencies of Art (avholdt i Oslo i mars i år) og rapporten har mottatt støtte fra Nordisk kulturkontakt og Kulturrådet. Publikasjonen er utgitt med støtte fra Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond.
Hver publikasjon koster NOK 150,- og er tilgjengelig for salg hos Oslo Kunstforening.
