Exhibition openings at Kunsthall 3,14

Join us for the opening of three new exhibitions at Kunsthall 3,14 during Kulturnatt! Simone Hooymans’ experimental animation, Lars Staffan Evjen’s coal installation, and a sound work by Nicola Renzi and Mai Britt Utsi invite us to reflect on humanity’s place within nature’s entangled cycles.
During the evening, you can attend artist presentations by Simone Hooymans and Lars Staffan Evjen. Monica Marcella Kjærstad, leader of Artsklubben – an open meeting place for everyone interested in biodiversity in Bergen – will give the mini-lecture “From Creepy-Crawlies to Environmental Politics”. (Please note that the presentations and lecture are held in Norwegian.)

19:15 Mini-lecture “From Creepy-Crawlies to Environmental Politics” by Monica Marcella Kjærstad from Naturvernforbundet, Hordaland.
How can art contribute to building knowledge about biodiversity? In the mini-lecture, Monica Marcella Kjærstad explores the significance of bees, beetles, flies, and other insects – small forms of life that often escape our notice, yet surround us everywhere. Although insects play an immeasurable role in sustaining life on Earth, we know remarkably little about many of the species we share our surroundings with, and even less about what happens to them as natural habitats are developed and transformed.
With a background in art and having worked with wild pollinating insects since 2020, Kjærstad explores how artistic approaches can offer new entry points into questions concerning nature – questions that might otherwise feel distant or difficult to grasp. Kjærstad is a member of Naturvernforbundet in the region of Hordaland- the regional chapter of Norway's oldest and largest environmental conservation organization, Friends of the Earth Norway. Kjærstad is also taking part in something called: Artsklubben. An initiative that aims to increase knowledge about biodiversity in Bergen and the surrounding areas, with particular attention to natural habitats at risk of development or being lost to regulation.
