Saturday 9.8.2025

Saturday 9 August, 15.00–17.30
Starting point: Kunsthall 3,14
Finishing point: Heksestein, Nordnesbakken 2
By Social Choreography Lab Helsinki in collaboration with Performance Art Bergen
In this participatory performance, Social Choreography Lab Helsinki reimagines public monuments through a contemporary lens, inviting us to reflect their symbolic weight and how societies choose to remember the past. The performance guides participants on a ritualistic and shared experience, creating space for collective engagement with historical memory.
In Bergen, a poignant monument known as Heksestein (The Witch Stone), unveiled in 2002, stands as a powerful reminder of the 350 individuals, mostly women, condemned for witchcraft between 1550 and 1700. The participatory performance with the members of the Social Choreography Lab Helsinki will foster a deeper understanding of the complex narratives surrounding the Witch Stone.
The performance begins at Kunsthall 3,14, where we will create small symbolic artworks with clay while engaging in a conversation about the background concerning the Witch Stone. The second part involves a walk to the monument in Nordnes, with stops at sites that illuminate the historical context and social conditions of those times. At the Witch Stone, a final performance-ritual will take place.
The workshop is free of charge and open to all. Please register in advance and secure your spot by sending an email to:
